The menu
la carta is usually divided into sections: Primeros platos (starters), Platos principales (main courses), Postres (desserts) and Bebidas (drinks).
In Spain, prices are written with a comma: 8,50 €. You read it as ocho euros con cincuenta.
The set menu
el menú del día has a fixed price. It often says pan y bebida incluidos – incluido means "included": bread and a drink cost nothing extra.
Opening hours
Opening hours are el horario. Many restaurants in Spain are open at lunchtime and in the evening, with a break in between: De 13:00 a 16:00 y de 20:00 a 23:30. Often one day is off: Lunes: cerrado.
In Latin America
In Latin America, depending on the country, you will also see prices with a decimal point, for example 8.50, and times with a. m. (before 12 noon) or p. m. (from 12 noon), for example 1:00 p. m. for 13:00.
