Where? Where to? Where from?

¿Dónde? – where someone is or something happens: en. Estoy en casa. Trabajo en una oficina.

¿Adónde? – where someone is going: a. Voy a Madrid. Voy al supermercado. Vamos a la playa. a + el becomes al.

¿De dónde? – where someone comes from: de. Soy de Colombia. Vengo del trabajo. de + el becomes del.

When? At what time?

¿Cuándo? – the day or time of day: hoy, mañana, el lunes (this Monday), los lunes (every Monday), por la mañana, por la tarde, por la noche. There is no en before a day of the week: La clase es el lunes.

¿A qué hora? – the clock time: a las ocho, a la una. La clase empieza a las ocho.

Place and time in one sentence

Place and time often go together in one sentence. The time can come at the beginning or at the end: Trabajo en casa por la mañana. El lunes voy al médico. La clase es el martes a las diez. The day and the clock time usually stay together: el martes a las diez.
