Important question words

Important question words include qué (what), quién (who), dónde (where), cuándo (when), cómo (how) and cuánto (how much). Question words carry an accent when they are used in questions.

In the exercises, you will learn to choose the appropriate question word and to form and understand simple Spanish questions correctly.

Por qué vs. porque

¿Por qué ...? means why ...? and is written as two words in questions, with an accent on qué. Porque means because ... and is written as one word in an answer or reason, without an accent. For example: ¿Por qué estudias español? – Porque vivo en España.
